The Path To Becoming Supertonic

Originally teaching guitar in Dayton, Oh in my living room under the name Dayton Guitar Lessons in 2011. After about a year and a half we decided to move to Seattle for some adventure and exploration.

Seattle Guitar Mentor was the next chapter and lasted a solid 8 years. The entire bottom level of our house was the teaching studio. We worked with countless students and brought on other teachers and staff. We grew every year and it was a ton of fun.

But we knew we didn’t want to stay there forever. In 2020 we went to online lesson sonly and had our biggest year by far, even hiring on more teachers while doing online lessons. After giving it a lot of thought, we decided to let our staff go and make the move to Nashville. This was the opportune time as everyone was already on Zoom due to lockdowns.

This was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. To leave behind all I spent so long building. We had an amazing community of students who became great friends, who would often hang outside of lessons or form bands with each other.

We stayed on line only for another year while we sorted out where we would be and finding a location to open.

We opened up Supertonic Guitar in Franklin October 2021. It’s been amazing (though extremely challenging) to get to start again in a whole new place. Tennessee is full of such kind and lovely people.

After 3 years as Supertonic Guitar, we changed our name again to Supertonic School of Music. Now providing much more than guitar lessons. We’ve added in piano, voice, drums, bass, ukulele, and rock band classes.

It’s been a journey of growth, full of twists and turns and many changes to get to where we are at now. We are excited for the future and all the new students and staff who’ve joined us and will be joining us.

In the end it’s about inspiring creativity in students, bringing people together, and making a lasting impact in peoples lives through music lessons.
